Where it stands

Per the July 2026 monthly construction report filed on MSRB EMMA, design was approximately 65 percent complete and the California Civil South and Civil Middle contracts were executed August 14, 2026, bringing the total to ten executed design-build contracts (MSRB EMMA).

The same filing carries an independent engineer's opinion from Urban Engineers dated August 18, 2026, and records a 218-mile alignment, a 220 mph top speed and Siemens American Pioneer 220 trainsets (MSRB EMMA). Completion was pushed to late 2029 in January 2026 (Las Vegas Newsroom), the date the LVCVA bulletin also carries (LVCVA). In June 2026 the project's bonds were trading at steep discounts even as contracts were being signed (Bloomberg).

Beyond the contract executions recorded in the July 2026 monthly construction report, no approval actions or case numbers appear in the sources we have.

What is not known

Two cost figures sit on different bases and we do not reconcile them: the LVCVA bulletin lists $21,500M as the tracked total program cost (LVCVA), while January 2026 reporting put the project cost at $12 billion or more (Las Vegas Newsroom).

The remaining funding gap to reach financial close on full construction is not quantified in the filings we have, and no case numbers or new approval actions beyond the contract executions were confirmed.

Why it matters

Ten executed design-build contracts mean the work is being let in packages that Nevada and California civil contractors can bid, and the bond disclosure gives the trades an unusually detailed public view of design progress. The bond pricing is the clearest available signal of how the market reads the project's funding, which is the constraint on when heavy civil work reaches the Nevada segment.
